The first helps you keep your trash from overflowing with files, and the second helps you navigate Finder more easily by grouping your folders above your files.
Hit Command-F to open Finder with the search bar activated.

command + Down : Run a file or go to folder
command + Up : back to upper folder

Deleting your Mac’s Smart Folders is easy. Just head to the Saved Search folder (using the Terminal command above or any other method you like), select a Smart Folder, and send it to the Trash.

1. Files Larger Than 1 GB
2. DMG Installers to Delete
3. Apps You Haven’t Opened in a While
6. Recently Created Documents
8. Duplicate Downloads
When macOS sees files that have the same filename, it appends a number in parentheses to them. Using a Boolean search to find files than have (1), (2), or (3) in the filename will help you find those duplicate files, no matter where they are.

  • Add Macintosh HD to locations so I can always get to the root hard drive
  • Home /Users/vega
  • screenshots (configure screenshot utility to save here)
    • open screenshot > options > other location
  • cmd+shift+h (takes you home)
  • cmd . (show hidden files and folders)
https://themacbeginner.com/set-default-finder-window-size-in-mac/
Open Finder and adjust the size as per your wish.
Close the Finder window.
Now, this is the main step. Press the Option key and right click (Control+click, or a Two-Finger click on trackpad) on the Finder. You would see a list of the options, click on relaunch.

Step 1: hold the ⌥ (alt/option) key on your keyboard
Step 2: right click on the Finder icon in your Dock
Step 3: click Relaunch
Step 1: open Finder
Step 2: click the  menu and hold Shift on your keyboard
Step 3: click Force Quit
Step 1: open Terminal
Step 2: type killall Finder
https://www.idownloadblog.com/2019/02/12/finder-view-options-sort-order-mac-folder/
2) Click View > Show View Options from the menu bar.
3) The options you see in the pop-up window will differ depending on the view you chose in Step 1. But they will display, Always open in…Group By, and Sort By. (Except Gallery view does not offer Group By).
4) At the top, under Always open in, you’ll see the view you chose. Make sure the checkbox is marked so that every time you open that folder it opens in the same view.

Change this in Finder>Preferences in the General pane, where you should set New Finder windows show to the folder you need to explore most often.

Add extra Finder tools
I think most Mac users know this, but in case you didn’t: Control-Click the Finder Title bar and select Customize Toolbar in the contextual menu that appears. Now you can add (and remove) a bunch of options from the Finder toolbar.  (I like to add a Path button to help me manage my way through my forests of files.)
  • Control-click the file name in the Finder title bar
  • Select Finder>View>Show Path Bar — you can click any folder in the path bar to get there
Fullscreen QuickView
QuickView is such an excellent tool for checking through for the right image in any folder. You can make it work in full-screen mode by pressing the Option key when you press Space to activate QuickLook.

Rename everything
Want to rename a whole bunch of files? Select them all (don’t forget you can select non-contiguous items by pressing Command as you select them), now Control click those items and you’ll be able to rename all of them, including giving them all a common name such as projectpicture 1, projectpicture2, etc.
For quick access to the Library folder from the Finder menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the Option (⌥) key, and then select Library in the dropdown menu.

Add a toolbar shortcut
holding down the Command key while selecting, dragging, and dropping a folder on the Finder Toolbar: “boom” an instant (and pervasive) shortcut to get to that folder

https://support.apple.com/kb/ph25527?locale=en_US
  • Rearrange the items in the toolbar: Press and hold the Command key, then drag an item to a new location.
  • Add a file or an app: Press and hold the Command key, then drag the item to the Finder toolbar until you see a green plus sign.

  • Add an app to the sidebar: Press and hold the Command key, then drag the app icon to the Favorites section.
How to resize Finder window permanently in Mac OS X

1. Quickly Adjust Column Widths

If you open a new Finder window and the column width is too small to view the names of your files, double-click the bottom of the column divider and the width will automatically expand to fit the longest filename.

Another useful trick is to hold down the Option (⌥) key when adjusting the column width manually (by click-dragging the divider). This adjusts all of the columns in the same window at the same time, and also sets the chosen size as the default column width for all Finder windows going forward.

2. Set a Default Folder for a New Finder Window

4. Add Shortcuts to the Toolbar

You can add convenient shortcuts along the top of the Finder window to any app, file, or folder you like, simply by holding down the Command (⌘) key and dragging the item onto an available space in the toolbar.

5. Merge All Open Finder Windows

If your desktop is being taken over by multiple Finder windows, you can quickly unify them as tabs in a single window: With a Finder window active, simply click Window in the menu bar and select Merge All Windows

From anywhere in the Finder, pull down the Finder menu and choose “Preference”
Click on the “Advanced” tab and pull down the menu under “When performing a search:”, selecting from the pulldown menu “Search the Current Folder” instead

  1. On your Mac in a Finder window or on the desktop, select one or more items, then press the Space bar.
A Quick Look window opens. If you selected multiple items, the first item is shown.

How to Show the Current Path in the Finder Title Bar
go to View > Show Path Bar in the OS X menu bar. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Option-Command-P to quickly enable or disable the Finder Path Bar

From an Open dialog box, press the keyboard shortcut—Command-Shift-G—that, in the Finder, summons the Go to Folder dialog.

Keyboard method: Cmd-C then Opt-Cmd-V does the cut&paste for files on Mac.
https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/stop-ds-store-files-mac-network/
macOS creates a .DS_Store file in every folder you view in Finder. This file stores metadata about that folder’s contents as well as user customizations for things like view type and icon size.
Stop Creating .DS_Store Files

alt+command+search - finder search window

Preview Spotlight Location with Command Key

Reveal the Spotlight Result’s Location in Finder
Simply highlight the desired result in Spotlight, hold the Command key, and press Return (or hold Command and double-click on the result). Normally, pressing Return will open the file or launch the application, but adding the Command key to the mix instead opens a new Finder window showing the folder that contains the Spotlight search result.

  1. From the “Go” menu navigate down to “Go to Folder” ….or better yet…
  2. Hit Command+Shift+G from the OS X desktop or a Finder window
Tab completion works like this, you start to type a directory path or filename and hit the Tab key to complete the text for you, preventing you from typing out the entire thing.

The Go To window also supports drag and drop, so if you already have a folder open somewhere or you just want to quickly retrieve the full path of something, just drag and drop a directory or file into the Go To Folder window.

  • Select the file or folder in the OS X Finder, then hit Command+i to summon Get Info

In the List View or Column View

In these views, using the Shift key is different from using the Command key.
Hold down the Command key and single-click on multiple items. In the List View, you can select items from several different folders in the same window, as long as their contents are showing in the list; in the Column View, you can only select items from one column at a time. See below, left.
The Shift key lets you select a group of items that are contiguous, or next to each other in the list. Single-click on the first item you want to select in a list. Then hold down the Shift key and click on the last item you want in the list. Everything between the two clicks will be selected.See below, right.
Holding Ctrl and selecting a previously selected object will remove it from the selection.
Holding Shift will add objects to an existing selection.
